My Teaching Experience

Our first week in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was a very surreal for me and yet I am looking forward on what will happen in the next couple of weeks. We are welcomed by the staff of UHAMKA and gave a good place to stay. They helped to be to be prepared in our teaching by giving us seminars for us to know the curriculum, teaching style and the students in Indonesia. Also, she gave us the opportunity to showcase our teaching style and although its hard, I manage to finish it. Indeed it is a great help for us as we look forward in teaching those kids!
WELCOMING AND ORIENTATION
During our second week, Ibu Nita accompanied us to SMA Wijaya Kusuma, I was nervous but when I entered the school, the principal, the teachers, the guards and also the students were very welcoming that I felt I was in the Philippines and they are also excited because it also their first time to receive teachers from another country. They also gave us foods to try and indeed it is very enak!

After the orientation, Miss Angela gave us a tour around the campus and we got the chance to introduce ourselves in fronth of the students and they were so amazed because our facial features are so much the same. During the tour, we met a student that sells food and Miss Angela treated us with that food and it is very delicious.
After the tour, we got the chance to observe Miss Angela's English Class. Seeing her class, I can see that English is really their foreign language and they were afraid to answer in English because some of their classmates mocked and laughed at them whenever they try to answer in English. We also met some students that are quite good in English and they are our translators whenever we want to say something.
Then for the following days, I observed Mr. Tri's class and I can see that the students were very participative and seeing how they are good in Math makes me so proud and makes me more excited to teach them Math. Also, during his class, he lets them to talk to me to ask anything and they were so curious about the Philippines that we had a 2 hours conversation just talking about Philippines and teaching them Filipino words.
FINAL DEMO TEACHING WEEK

Unlike other schools, we had a 1 week demo teaching in which we have one topic that is given by my cooperating teacher and the topic that he assigned to me is about Probability. Days prior my final demo, I prepared my lesson plan and make my powerpoint and send it to Mr. Tri. I also prepared games for them to guess the lesson.

After the preparations, the time has already come. I started my class with a prayer led by any of the students or their class representative. At first, I was really nervous because they might get bored on the class but I was so happy that they made me felt that I should not be nervous. After the prayer, we had a quick game called "Bingo" which is they are so familiar and they enjoyed the game that they want to have a second round because they want to win.

After our icebreaker we proceeded with our discussion proper and I am amazed at their active participation with the discussion because during my class they got to know english words like pillows, head, tail and also they teach me the translations of these words.

Finally we proceeded with our assessment and they are so fast at answering the quiz and all of them got perfect scores which I am so proud and after the class, I took the opportunity to take some pictures with them for my documentations

It is my final week at SMA Wijaya Kusuma and a day before that, I bought some tokens that I can give to my students and packed them. Honestly, during that time I felt that I want to stay more but everything will end and I felt the sadness that it will be my last day teaching them.
During my break time, a student went to the faculty and gave me a gift and a letter to say thank you and that she will miss me and I am so touched with the letter. Also, during my class I felt the sepanx that I will have once I go back to the Philippines. During my discussion at my last class at XII-3 I am happy that they participated and they got a perfect score at the quiz and after my discussion, I gave them the gifts that I prepared for them and they were so happy yet they were sad that we are leaving.

After our class, Miss Angela and my other co-teachers made a promotional video for the SMA Wijaya Kusuma page and we had a great time doing the video, it felt like I am a celebrity. Right after that, we had the closing ceremony at the Principal's Office together with Pak Toppo, Ibu Nita, Ibu Meyta, Miss Angela and Pak Tri. We had a heartfelt ceremony and they were thankful for sharing our expertise and also we are also very thankful for them that they welcomed us with an open arms and making us like we are part of that school.
